On the morning of 23^rd 2012, the Ministry of Transport and Binh Dinh Province People's Committee held a ceremony to kick off the construction of National Highway 19 route from Quy Nhon seaport to National Highway 1A intersection in the city of Quy Nhon. The event was attended by Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Secretary of the National Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly; the Binh Dinh provincial leaders and leaders of the relevant departments of the neighboring provinces of Quang Ngai, Gia Lai and Kon Tum. Picture: Ground breaking ceremony

Over the last years, the National Highway 19 has undertaken a very important and dynamic role as a gateway to the international sea port of Quy Nhon, a port with handling capacity of more than 6 million tons/year, ranked as the port with the biggest capacity in the central coastal region. However, with narrow pavement and seriously degrading condition, it is very important to upgrade the  route to ease the increasing traffic and transport.

On 25/01/2011, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 07/2011/QD-TTg approving the transport development plan for the central key economic region by 2020 and orientations to 2030. Accordingly, the National Highway 19 route from Quy Nhon Seaport (Binh Dinh) to Le Thanh (Gia Lai) has a length of 238km and is planned along the current National Highway 19. It connects the southern centre of the central key economic region with the central Highlands of Vietnam, Southern Laos and North East Cambodia.

The National Highway 19 goes through Binh Dinh Province with 69.5 km The project has a total investment capital of VND 5,279 billion, divided into 03 phases, is expected to complete by 2020.
