Inauguration of water supply scheme 5,600 m3/day in Phu Cat district

On09.27.2013, the provincial People's Committee held an inauguration ceremony of PhuCat district’s drinking water supply. The event was attendedby Mr.Ho Quoc Dung, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People Committee (PC);Mr.Alain Devaux, Chief Representative of the Belgian Development Agency inVietnam, leaders of relevant departments in Binh Dinh, leaders of PCs of PhuCat and Tuy Phuoc districts, and of communal PCs and people in beneficiaryareas.

 

On09.27.2013, the provincial People's Committee held an inauguration ceremony of PhuCat district’s drinking water supply. The event was attendedby Mr.Ho Quoc Dung, Deputy Chairman of the Provincial People Committee (PC);Mr.Alain Devaux, Chief Representative of the Belgian Development Agency inVietnam, leaders of relevant departments in Binh Dinh, leaders of PCs of PhuCat and Tuy Phuoc districts, and of communal PCs and people in beneficiaryareas.

After 26 months of construction (from July 2011), the construction was completed,accepted and put into use. It is one of the components of Water Supply andSanitation project (WSSP) in Binh Dinh funded by Belgian Government. Theproject has total capital of 8.95 million euros, of which Belgian Governmentfunds 7.5 million euros and counterpart fund of the Government of Vietnam is1.45 million euros. Total execution time is 60 months, from August 2009 to July2014.

Thedrinking water scheme in Phu Cat district is responsible for supplying water incompliance with the National Technical Regulations for 84,000 people, withcapacity of 60 liters/person/day in 07 communes in 02 districts of Phu Cat andTuy Phuoc districts. Total cost of construction investment is 117 billion, ofwhich aid from Belgiumis 73 billion, while the provincial budget is 26 billion and Phu Cat districtis 9 billion, Tuy Phuoc district budget 3 billion, local people contribute 6billion. The total designcapacity of the plant is 5,600 m3/day, including 04 drilled wells,approximately 200 km pipelines distributing water to residential areas.

At the ceremony, Mr Alain Devaux acknowledged the efforts, sympathy andstrong commitments from leaders of Binh Dinh province. The project managementboard of WSSP, the investor, consultants and the contractor have completed theworks on schedule and ensure the technical requirements. He saidthat this is one of the most important works of WSSP in Binh Dinh provincefunded by the Belgian government. Theinauguration marked a milestone in the friendship cooperation between theBelgian government and Binh Dinh to improve the quality of life of local peoplein beneficiary area, through drinking water system, irrigation and sanitarylandfills, activities to raise awareness and capacity building.

The water supply scheme in Phu Cat district was completed and put intouse at the same time with the water supply scheme in Phuoc Son Commune, TuyPhuoc district (3,000 m 3/day)will solve the shortage of drinking water for people in coastal eastern part ofTuy Phuoc district and southeast of Phu Cat district where people arestruggling to get enough drinking water. Besides,completion of works significantly contributes to the results of the NationalTarget Program on clean water and sanitation in rural areas during 2011-2015 inBinh Dinh province.
