Big investment to develop Central coastal provinces

At the beginning of May 2008, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved the overall plan of socio-economic development for Central Vietnam from now till 2020. Of the total VND2,333,000 billion invested in Central Vietnam, nearly VND411,000 billion is designated for the 2006 -2010 period, nearly VND608,000 billion for the 2011 - 2015 period and VND1,314,000 billion for the 2016 - 2020 period.

With the total catipal, the Central coastal provinces and cities from Thanh Hoa to Ninh Thuan will focus on construction of seaports; tourist resorts; economic zones, industrial zones; infrastructure for transportation, irrigation, telecomunications networks and information technology; development of electrical grid, agricultural and urban infrastructure; petrochemical filtering industry, shipping industry…

 

This plan, according to the Government, aims to develop the Central coastal region into the developed ecomonic region, as the eastern gateway for the North – South economic corridor. At the same time, the plan is to improve the living standard for inhabitants, removing poverty and hunger, overcoming imbalances between cities and rural areas, among the regions and etc.

 

In order to finish the above objectives, a series of urgent missions proposed, top priority should be paid to investment in construction of railways, roads, internal waterway infrastructure and seaports; the establishment of a 1,314 - kilometer coastal traffic route linking Thanh Hoa and Binh Thuan, building a tunnel under Ca Pass; by 2020,  completing the north-south highway, improving and expanding the National roads, railways, constructing Van Phong Port (Khanh Hoa) into an international transshipment port, Lien Chieu port (Da Nang) into a gateway port and upgrading other ports in the region.

 

According to the Ministry of Construction (MC), from 2008 - 2010, it will carry out the plan, arrange and resettlement, assistance to build accommodation for tens of thousands households from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen which usually suffer heavy losses caused by floods and storms. Besides, MC also proposed the plan to upgrade the technical infrastructure including irrigation, water reservoirs, embankments for soil erosion control in the residential areas of the mountainous and river regions.

 

In the middle of last April, the Ministry of Transport and Danang’s People’s Committee held the inauguration ceremony for the southern route of Hai Van Pass (linking the National road 1A and 14B). In the future, the route will an important link of the high-speed route linking Quang Ngai - Danang - Thua Thien Hue - Quang Tri.

 

It is a new and optimistic signal for the socio-economic development of Central Vietnam.
