On the morning of 11th January 2013, Quy Nhon Port in cooperation with Binh Dinh Chip Limited Liability Company (BDC) held a ceremony to welcome Pegasus Green vessel of Hachiuma Steamship Co. Ltd., Japan, at the wharf of Quy Nhon Port.
Facing current increasing difficulty of woodchip business and tense competition in Binh Dinh province and neighbouring provinces, to stabilize production activities of BDC and Japanese partner, the Japanese side has built a vessel to receive woodchip of the company. Green Pegasus can carry 36,000 DWT, capable of transporting about 15,000-16,000 bone dry tons of wood chips (BDT). This is the first time Japanese partner arranges a new ship launching to Quy Nhon port for loading goods,  which shows a special interest of Japanese partners with BDC Company and Binh Dinh woodchip market.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of the provincial leadership of the Department of Planning and Investment, Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Quy Nhon Port, Binh Dinh Department of Customs, representatives of Oji Forest & Products Co.., Ltd as a joint venture partner of BDC, Hachiuma Steamship Co., Ltd and members of Green Pegasus. This is an important  event  for BDC company, joint venture partners in Vietnam and Quy Nhon Port, especially when 40th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Japan (21/9/1973- 09.21.2013) is being celebrated.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huu Phuc - CEO of Quy Nhon Port, said: “The years 2012 and 2013 have marked great success of Quy Nhon Port in all aspects. Cargo output handled at the port has reached high growth rate, achieved 5.7 million tons in 2012 and expected to reach 6.3 million tons in 2013. Wood chip volume achieved 650,000 tons in 2012 and around  1 million ton in 2013. This success comes from sensible orientation and support of administration, the efforts of leaders and employees as well as ongoing cooperation from our customers”.
In recent years, Quy Nhon Port has made a lot of investment and endless efforts to improve service quality and to meet the requirements of cargo owners and ship owners. In particular, Quy Nhon Port has completed the upgrading of wharf 30,000 to 50,000 DWT and thaks to that, shippers can reduce shipping costs from 9 to 11 USD/tons of cargo, a positive impact during the global economic downturn.”
