The Belgium Ambassador presents a souvenir and takes a photo with PPC Chairman Pham Anh Tuan and leaders of the concerned departments
At the meeting, Mr Pham Anh Tuan briefed on the province's potentials and advantages, the province's socio-economic development master plan and orientation in the upcoming time. The Chairman appreciated the ambassador's visit to Binh Dinh and requested the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium to support the organization of a Belgian business delegation to Binh Dinh in the third or fourth quarter 2024 for investment survey.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan especially emphasized that authorities of Binh Dnh province are making continuous efforts to build a favorable investment environment in the province; it is now the most favorable time for Belgian businesses to invest in the province. The province would send an official document to the Embassy clearly stating the contents of cooperation in investment, science and technology and hope that the cooperative efforts between the two sides would bring good results in the near future.
The Ambassador thanked the province for the respectful welcome and promised to collaborate with the counselors and European associations to carry out the proposal of Chairman Pham Anh Tuan.
Vietnam and Belgium established diplomatic relations on March 22, 1973. The year 2023 marks 50 years of establishing diplomatic relation and 5 years of strategic partnership in the agricultural sector.
The Kingdom of Belgium is a country quite close and familiar to the authorities in Binh Dinh province. Although attracting foreign direct investment from Belgian businesses and investors has not achieved the desired results, through two-way foreign trade activities and ODA and NGO capital sources,... , Belgium has also made positive contributions to the socio-economic development of Binh Dinh province.
Binh Dinh province received ODA capital sponsored by the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium with a total value of 7.5 million EURO to implement the Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Binh Dinh province previously. This project was worth 8.95 million EURO, including 7.5 million EURO sponsored by the Government of the Kingdom of Belgium and the rest was counterpart capital from Viet Nam, and was started in 2009 in the following areas: Phu Cat, Phu My, Tuy Phuoc, Tay Son, Hoai Nhon districts and An Nhon town. The project focuses on two areas of rural water supply and environmental sanitation with the goal of improving the quality of life of people in localities participating in the project with 4 components, including: constructing Phu Cat district water supply work; upgrading Hoc Mon reservoir, Phu My district; developing a strategy to develop capacity in clean water and solid waste management, and organize activities to strengthen solid waste management capacity for districts and towns participating in the project; supporting the construction of solid waste landfills in Phu My, Tay Son and Hoai Nhon districts. All components of the project were completed and put into use in 2015. The results of the project were significant and appreciated by the beneficiaries.
Regarding exports, the total export turnover of the first 5 months of 2024 to Belgium reached over 14.8 million USD, an increase of nearly 27% over the same period in 2023. The exported items to Belgium mainly include wood products, garment products, plastic products, of which wood products account for the highest proportion with over 41% of total export turnover.
Regarding imports, the province's total import turnover in the first 5 months of 2024 from Belgium reached 74 thousand USD, an increase of more than 124% over the same period in 2023. The imported goods from Belgium mainly are pharmaceutical raw material and accessories with the highest proportion of over 90% of the province's total import turnover from this market.
