On 12th April 2018, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment issued an approval for the environmental impact assessment report of Bamboo Airways.
Previously, the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Construction had had opinions on the project.
Accordingly, Viet Bamboo Airlines project, with the trade name Bamboo Airways (BAS), has an airport base at Phu Cat airport, with total capital of VND 700 billion (100% equity) and will use Airbus A320/A321 or Boeing B737 aircrafts.
BAS will combine the traditional full service model and low cost model. It will provide basic services such as luggage, newspapers, meals and with charge for with advanced services such as Business class, Lounges or Lux Air services. BAS divides its development strategy into 3 main stages:
- The domestic market penetrating stage with 3 passenger aircrafts: flights connecting Quy Nhon with tourist destinations such as Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh, Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh and Hai Phong; and Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh route. The international route is expected to start in the second year with flights connecting Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh and Quy Nhon cities to the Chinese market.
- The market expansion phase: BAS will increase its airfleet with the growth rate of 2-3 aircrafts per year, expanding domestic air routes and taking part in regional and international routes;
- The development phase: BAS will develop new services and other value-added services and increase the fleet to 20-25 aircrafts.
- Basing on its strategic objectives and plans, BAS plans to develop a network of flight routes exploiting the strengths of FLC group, including resorts and connections of direct flights from Thanh Hoa, Quang Ninh, Quy Nhon, Nghe An, Hai Phong cities... with the markets of China, South Korea, Taiwan, Macau, Japan ... in order to bring the best service to target customers with aviation and tourism products. Also, it is aimed to be distinct from its competitors. In addition, BAS is concerned about the efficient use of the air fleet and the stability of the flight schedule, minimization of flight delays and cancellation.
The project will help attract domestic and international tourists to Binh Dinh in particular and Vietnam in general, contributing to promotion of Binh Dinh tourism and boosting service development.
Currently, Phu Cat Airport is in the process of constructing and expanding civil aviation area. The Airport was approved by the Ministry of Transport to upgrade its infrastructure to have enough space for 12 aircrafts in a Decision dated 1st February 2016 approving the detailed plan adjustment of Phu Cat Airport for the period to 2020, orientation to 2030.
