In the morning of 31 July 2009, at the Office of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee, the agreement signing ceremony for project “Binh Dinh: linking poor farmers to markets” was held with the presence of Mr James Kember - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of New Zealand in Vietnam and Ms Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh - Vice chairman of the Binh Dinh People’s Committee. Also joining the ceremony are Mr Margaret Lowe- Director of NZAID (New Zealand Agency for International Development) and representatives of related agencies in the province.

After two years of preparing, the project was approved by NZAID and the Prime Minister of Vietnam on
The project aims to help Binh Dinh province to improve capacity for its agriculture business sector in order to speed up the argricultural development according to the market orientation, thus bringing socio-economic benefit and sustainable environment to poor households in the province.
Accordingly, the project includes 4 components: Component 1 helps Tay Son and Tuy Phuoc districts increase recognised safe vegetable volume serving markets in and out of the province; Component 2 aims to develop marketing chances for small coconut tree-growing households in Hoai Nhon and Phu My districts; Component 3 improves the efficiency of small and large-scaled cattle breeding systems, linking poor farmers to market; Component 4 supervises, assessing services, activities of the project together with the yearly plan of the Binh Dinh Agricuture and Rural development for effective project management.
